MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF THE COLLEGE
Introduction:
Welcome to St. Henry’s College Kitovu. I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and invite you to our College Website. Visit our extensive website to learn about the School, all the activities and events and also engage with members of the fast growing SHACK community.
With a vibrant management team, studious staff and dedicated students, SHACK has over the past 97 years superseded the imagination of many. The investment in infrastructure, material and human resources is undoubtedly parallel to none.
Many of SHACK’s Alumni have been instrumental in promoting and elevating the School status. The college has received invaluable support from the government through the Ministry of Education.
We have transformed the College and looking back at the past years I have been Head teacher, I am encouraged and confident. I am proud of a strong, dedicated and reliable support team to help push for positive change.
The College is guided by its Vision and Mission:
SCHOOL VISION: CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND ENDLESS SEARCH FOR KNOWLEDGE
SCHOOL MISSION: TO PRODUCE SELF RELIANT AND ACCEPTABLE CITIZENS WHO ARE WELL FORMED IN CHARACTER AND KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION
Appreciation:
I extend my appreciation to the Board of Governors under the stewardship of Fr. Dr. Mugagga Tamale, the P.T.A. Executive headed by Mrs. Muwanguzi Tumushabe Resty, Old students Association headed by Mr. Kivumbi Apollo, the Teaching and Support staff, the students and our dear parents. They have all been very supportive to the College.
I also thank all the former Head teachers of this College for their positive contribution towards the success of this school. The Foundation and culture they put in place during their time still stands.
Academic Progress:
The College once again shined in U.C.E. and U.A.C.E Exams, 2018. Out of 210 of our students who sat UCE Examinations, 172 came in Division I, and 38 students came in Division II.
In U.A.C.E, our very own Ssewankambo Paul obtained 20 points in Physics, Mathematics and Technical Drawing / Sub ICT (3AAA1) and Ogellan Jonathan Noel also obtained 20 points in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Sub ICT (4AAA1). I therefore thank everybody who contributed to make our students excel. I congratulate our stars of 2018. In a special way, I congratulate Chemistry Department for emerging the 10th best in the country, ICT the 10th, Physics the 13th, Literature the 13th, among other subjects. We thank the Board of Governors, staff and parents for all the support.
The top students who excel in U.C.E Examinations and enroll for their A' level studies at the college are sponsored by the Board of Governors and Old Students. This scholarship is guaranteed for all their two years at High school as long as the student remains in good academic standing. The College has continued its march in the path of academic excellence.
The students who excel in their U.A.C.E. examinations return to the College during their vacation to discuss for the A-Level students and provide peer and inspirational guidance to the candidates. They become part of staff until they commence their University studies.
Co-curricular Activities:
Apart from academic success, the College continues to emphasize co-curricular activities. I believe that it is essential to equip students not only with academic knowledge but also a useful set of competencies and skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive world. I therefore espouse modern approaches of education that emphasize all–round development of the students.
The Administration provides ample time, facilities and a broad array of co-curricular activities for the students to discover and develop their talents through Clubs and Societies such as, scouting, Y.C.S., Xaverian Movement, Interact, Drama, Debating among others. These activities underpin the goal of teaching students to be responsible and fulfilled human beings with opportunities that develop character, competitive spirit, critical thinking and balancing priorities. We also teach students the importance of vigilance, hard work, attention to detail, patience and persistence in the face of setbacks, foster social skills, self-esteem, develop leadership skills and provide opportunities to build lifetime relationships as well as helping channel the youthful energies in fruitful activities.
All these activities have been a success in the College and our students have travelled in some countries for example Debate club in Germany, Rwanda, South Africa, Junior Achievers in Ghana, and Scouts in Tanzania and Kenya, among others.
In this regard, our college is also organising a cultural gala on 22nd, April, 2019 which will involve all students, teaching and non-teaching staff, support staff and old boys who will also participate. Preparations are on-going under the theme, “My culture, My Character”.
Conclusion:
The School Administration, the Board of Governors and P.T.A. work together to ensure that the school population is kept at acceptable levels.
The foundation upon which the College was founded, the Catholic Foundation is still strong. I pledge to keep and preserve the College values, academic excellence, and the name of St. Henry’s College Kitovu. I implore all of you who visit our Website to accord the College all the possible support.
On a point of information, I wish to invite you to come and celebrate with us our 97th, year of existence on 13th, July, 2019 which will be St. Henry's Day.
It is an exciting time to be a part of the SHACK community and I invite you to explore and remain engaged with us, online and in person.
Thank you.
